Visit Ballarat and Sovereign Hill Gold Fields with AAT Kings Tours. Enjoy getting close to Australia's wildlife, pan for gold and learn about the Australian gold rush.
Gold was discovered near Ballarat in 1851, and the influx gold miners and prospectors transformed it from a pastoral town into Victoria's largest city. Ballarat's growth slowed after the 1880s, but it remains a major inland regional centre and tourist destination, having retained much of its Victorian era heritage and is known for its grand heritage listed buildings and gardens.
K13: Sovereign Hill Goldfields & Ballarat
Experience Sovereign Hill and learn about the history of the gold rush and life in the 1850's. Pan for gold and go down into the underground mine for a guided tour. See traditional blacksmiths and craftsmen shilling their trades. Enjoy unique period style shopping, real life characters and entertainment, and a host of activities available including stage coach rides and costume photos. Browse the many souvenir shops and enjoy a great choice of cafes and restaurants for lunch (not included).
K3: Ballarat Wildlife Park & Sovereign Hill
Enjoy a guided tour of the Ballarat Wildlife Park, hand-feed kangaroos and touch and photograph a cuddly koala. See Tasmanian Devils and the free roaming emus. See the amazing Australian crocodile along with a huge display of reptiles and snakes. Browse the great craft and souvenir shop, and the delightful café. Then to Sovereign Hill for an exciting goldrush experience. Pan for gold or go down the mine. Visit the Gold Museum and the Chinese Village which highlights the contribution of Chinese people who worked in the goldfields.
